Carrick on Suir Business Association and the Carrick-on-Suir Tourism and Economic Development Committee have organised a Guided Historic Town Walk with local historian Tom Walsh for every Wednesday during July and August at 2.30pm, beginning at The Heritage Centre on the main street in Carrick-on-Suir. The first tour begins on Wednesday 04th July…perfect for any American visitors!

The full tour takes about two hours and starts from Carrick-on-Suir Heritage Centre and takes in the Town Wall, William Street, New Street, Castle Street, Ormond Castle, Main Street, the two bridges, Carrickbeg, the West Gate, Sean Kelly Square and the former workhouse site on the Clonmel Road. Tom’s potted history lesson of the town from its medieval origins in the 12th century to the present day is interspersed with plenty of interesting anecdotes and nuggets of social history, some based on his own memories and experiences growing up in the town. Tom also welcomes any questions visitors may have in tracing their relatives from the town.

Tickets can be bought at The Heritage Centre and cost €5 per adult or €10 per family. Group rates can also be accommodated. It may also be possible to organise a group guided walking tour of the town on days other than Wednesday, please contact the Heritage centre at 051 640200 for more information or for bookings.
