If you're visiting Killmallock, make sure to take in the impressive four-storey tower house built in honour of King John, following his death in 1216.

King John's Castle is a four-storey tower that may have been part of the northern gate entrance to the town at one time. It is sixty feet high with battlements, and two wide arched openings at ground level. There is a public passage through an opening of the basement.

Although built in the 15th century, the tower house was revonated in the 19th century with features of the time, such as the addition of larger windows.
