Mount Congreve is home to the largest collection of plants in Ireland. Discover stunning gardens and walks across the 70 acre grounds, just off the Waterford Greenway with views over the River Suir.

The owner, the late Mr Ambrose Congreve, was inspired by Mr Lionel de Rothschild’s exceptional garden at Exbury in Hampshire, England. It was here that his interest in gardening was nurtured and he became infected with a passion and enthusiasm for plants such as rhododendrons, magnolias, camellias and many other floras from every continent in the world. The entire collection consists of over three thousand different trees and shrubs.

The are a number of Instagram-worthy points on the grounds including a Chinese Pagoda, a classical temple surrounded by rhododendron yunnanense and rhododendron ‘Hino-crimson’, a rock waterfall, a 19th century Georgian glasshouse, and the main house was built in the 1750s and designed by famous Waterford architect John Roberts.

A café serving teas, coffee and seasonal produce from the gardens has been added and full ticketed access to the gardens along with guided tours for all levels of interest are available. A garden shop on site with plants propagated within Mount Congreve are available for purchase.
